The Inquisitor

Some people may disagree but I believe that sir Philip does not own the land in which he built his wall on. I think that that land should belong to the farmers who have worked it for hundreds of years.

The first reason why I believe that the farmers are the rightful owners of this land is.The farmers of lonsdale have lived on and farmed the land for generations.Sir Philip's ancestors allowed the land to be worked on by the farmer without any incident and this should have never changed with him taking over ownership of the Estate.so if Sir Philips ansestors gave the land to the farmers, how can sir Philip just come in and take it back.

My second reason why I think the farmer own this land is.That they need the land. Its not just to have the land but it's where they grow their food which they have to have to be able to live and sustain their families.

My final reason why I believe that the farmer are the true owner of the land is.That the farmers were there first. They have worked the land on which they live on for hundreds of and sir Philip just came to londsale. The farmers have worked togther to plant, care for and harvests crop off this common land for hundreds of years. Sir Philip has just gotten to londsale and he thinks he can take the land from them that just isn't fair.

I believe that with my points that I have shown above that I have proven that the farmers are the rightful owners of the land. They have been there for hundreds of years and sir Philip has only been in londsale for a short time. In conclusion I strongly believe that the farmers are the rightful owners of the land that sir Philip built his wall on.

Water to Power ?
Writen by; Johnathon Burket
August 15, 1591

The power struggle is over, there is now
a new stronger way to power buildings. What
is this source of power? Well as you know
water is exceptionaly strong and now it’s energy
is able to be harnessed using what is being called
the horizontal water wheel. It was intvented last year
by a man named lenardo Davinci in south scottland.

Early designs
for the water wheel.

He invented the water wheel in hopes of t being used to harrness the amazing and unstopping power water which unlike wind is continous. The water wheel works by spinning on a rod that is positioned verticaly. The wheel sits totaly in the
flow of water its flaps giving thewater something to push agianst. As the wheel spins is truns the rod which is thenattached to what ever is needed to be spun. They now beinging to produce these and ship them to different locations where they are needed.a grian mill onwer states that" this water wheel has been the best investment he has ever made.If you wish to order one of these amazing inventions send a letter to 432 Thames st. London.

Mood
While reading this book I didn’t feel any one way for very long, since the mood would change so often. It changed from times of happiness and excitement (When Jamie and Awiasn started there their journey home) then the next moment there was times of sadness (When their pet Caribou fawn Otinak was killed by the wolves). Thou I would say that  the overall mood throughout the book was very serious because they were always trying to survive in the arctic or trying to travel from it and there was no real time for playing around. There were a few sad parts in the book though the saddest was when their pet fawn was killed by the wolves.
The most exciting part in this book is when Jamie and Awiasn tried to leave the arctic by sleigh and were almost killed in a blizzard before they could even make it to the forests to the south. There are a few parts that really stick out to me in this story, but there was one point that I really remember. That is when Jamie and Awiasn wrecked their canoe by going over a waterfall. I think that I remember this the most because it was the largest turning point in the book. Like I have said the mood changes a lot throughout some events that have changed the mood were when they wrecked there canoe or when they found the Eskimo’s dogs roaming the arctic and used them to help them escape.

Predictions
I think this book is probably the hardest book I have ever read to predict. It is hard to determine what will happen next in this book because it is very unpredictable. Once you think that you know what will happen next there is some drastic change and then you have to make your predictions over again. I think this book will end with Jamie and Awiasn escaping from the arctic and returning to their village but I do not think it will go that smoothly. One thing I think will happen before they reach home is they will run into some Eskimo’s .I also believe the outcome of their encounter will not happen how Jamie and Awiasn are expecting  it to go over, (they are afraid of them).
My prediction for the ending was very close to the actual outcome. I was right about them running into some Eskimo’s, but how they ran into them I would have never predicted. Another thing that I did not predict about the end was that the Eskimo’s were extremely nice to Jamie and Awiasn. They even guided them home and provided them food while they visited the Eskimo camp. I didn’t think that would have happened because of the believed hatred let on in this book between the Indians and the Eskimo’s. The last thing that I didn’t predict was that Jamie’s uncle and Awiasn’s father had made many trips in search of them.

Author

It is hard to tell why the author would write this book was it just an idea or was it inspired by something. I think the author wrote this book because of a personal experience like a story. I think possibly when the author was young he was told a story. This story was of people stranded in barrens and lived to tell about it and maybe he was told this by an elder. Another reason why I think he didn’t just come up with the story is his knowledge of the land and it trees, plants. Also his knowledge of terms about canoeing and the exact names of all the rivers and mountains and all their English translations.
I think the author is trying to tell us that we have to respect the land for it beauty and it danger and if we don’t. It is more than able to kill us with it’s amazing force. This was my first book that I have read by this author and I would have to say he made a good first impression. Later on this year I am hoping to find and read some other books by this author. I want to read some of his other books because this book was so good that it makes you want to read more and more, even if it is not related to this book.

Questions
In this book there was one thing that I really didn’t understand at the time. That part was when they wreaked their canoe by going over the waterfall. Why didn’t they just start heading for home and hope to make it to the edge of the forest before winter came? Instead they tried to head west to intercept the rest of their hunting party on their way home, but it was too late they missed them and they now had to spend a winter alone on the barrens. I think the author wrote the book the way he did to make the story more interesting and trust me it worked. If I was the author there is one thing that I would have changed in this book. That one thing is that I would have ended it with them still stuck on the barrens and then created a squeal about their journey home and them going to revisit the Eskimo’s.
In this book I thought the conclusion was great it fit the book very well and it rapped everything up. There was one thing that might have made it better though that was. As I said before I thought the ending could have been improved by finishing the story in a squeal instead of fitting it all in this book. One thing that was special about this book is that it is written in old English. A language that if an Indian were to speak English a long time ago this is how it would be spoken. My favourite part in this story is when Jamie and Awiasn find Eskimo dogs this is my favourite part because it is a turning point a point from not leaving the barrens to leaving.

Evaluation
There are a few things that the author did that made this book unique and different those are some of the things that made me like this book. A few of the thing that he did very well throughout the book are. For one he made it very unpredictable and once you picked up on this it helped in making you want to read more and more. Another thing I think that he did well was that he was able to make the book long enough to get all the information through but not so that it would take you months to read it. The last thing I thought the author did well was using grammar and words that an Indian boy and a group of Indians would use, even though they are not words we would use in our normal life. I thought this book was so good I don’t even think there was any way it could be written better.
I have not read any other book by this author so I cannot compare this to any of his others. Though I can compare it to other books that I have read by other authors. One other author that uses similar techniques to the author of this book (Farley Mowatt) is Gary Paulsen. He displays his similar writing technique in the books Hatchet and the River. He uses the element of surprise and unpredictability to hook you and to make you want to read more. In writing I think that using these technique makes you a much stronger writer and greatly improves the story.

Reactions

This book can inflict many reactions on people who decide to read it. From parts of happiness to situations were sadness seems to take over. From times of confusion and dislike to parts of understanding. My general reaction from this book would be happiness for a few reasons. I feel that this was a very good book for the fact that it's never boring and it always holds your attention. My second reason is that In the book both Jamie and Awiasn were able to escape the barrens and survive. The last reason for that being my reaction is that they were able to start a new relationship between the Indians and the Eskimo's this removing the fear between the two peoples and providing each other with new hunting grounds.
Yes I would recommend this book. I would recommend it to anyone who just wants to read a good book that isn’t too long. The only group that I would not recommend this book for are People who are not very strong at reading. I would not recommend this book for them because this book does have a lot of unique words that we do not use a lot. Some of the reasons why I would recommend this book are. It is never boring it is always exciting, It will never stretch out a part in the story and lose your interest and it does not have a huge introduction it just jumps right into the story. My last reason that I would recommend this book is, it is short it does not go on and on for ever and you are able to finish the book in a reasonable amount of time.

 Characters
There are two main characters in this book their names are Jamie Macniar and Awiasn. Jamie is a boy whose parents were killed when he was young and for many years he lived at a boarding school paid for by his uncle. Now his uncle cannot afford to pay for the schooling so Jamie is brought up north to live with his uncle. Awiasn on the other hand is an Indian boy who lives in a village near Jamie’s uncle’s home. Yes I did like the characters in this story I though they fit the plot perfectly. They both seemed very believable in many of the situations throughout the story. Both Jamie and Awiasn were very unique and I do not know anyone like them.
There are few things that Jamie and Awiasn did wrong and a few things that they did right. Some of the thing they did wrong were they went over a waterfall in there canoe and wrecked it this removed there only hope of traveling home before winter struck. The next thing that they did wrong is they tried to escape the barrens and almost got froze to death in a blizzard. Some of the thing that they did right are they did not try to beat winter and escape right away. They found the hidden valley and built a good shelter. They were able to build a sleigh and eventually escape. The last thing that they did right was they made friends with the Eskimo’s which gave the the Indians extended hunting grounds.

Experiences
As I read this book it was hard to relate it to anything that has happened to me in real life. This is because I have never done anything even remotely close to what happens in the book. There was one memory that was at least a bit similar to the story that memory was when I was 12 and my cousins were over at my house and we decided to go into the woods and build a fort. This is similar to the book because Jamie and Awiasn have to multiple forts to survive in the arctic. The difference between the book and my situation in real life was they needed their forts in order to and we just built ours for fun. Another thing that I have done that they do in the story is go canoeing and portaging into a campsite.
There is one book that really sticks out as being similar to this one. That book is Hatchet! These books are similar in so many ways for one Brian in Hatchet creates a shelter and so do Awiasn and Jamie. Brain’s lost in the Canadian wilderness and so are Awiasn and Jamie and they both survive their ordeals. Some of the differences between the two books are Brian is trapped in the woods and Jamie and Awiasn are trapped on the barrens. Another difference is Awiasn and Jamie got themselves into the mess they got in and Brian was caught in a plane crash. These are some of these books similarities and differences.
